New Waves, a skatepunk 90s graphic for Domico band
My fav japanese guys hit me up again, they’re Domico, a cool alternative rock band from Tokyo. Here’s some other stuff we did together:
This time they asked me to design a graphic in pure '80s–'90s California skate style, which is basically exactly what I do pretty much 365 days of my life, when I’m not out in the water or skateboarding trying a trick that I’m not gonna land.
So I drew this skeleton wearing a snapback with “Domico” written across the visor. It’s got a cool pair of sunglasses on, and the eyes are literally popping out — one shooting through the mouth, the other bursting out of the shades.
In the top eye you can find the drummer, the singer he’s surfing a wave shooting out from the shirt. I’m drawing palm trees shirts since 2018 and I still don’t own one, bummer.
Behind the skeleton, there’s a wooden skateboard shaped like a coffin, on fire. An ice cream stuck in the head, a sun wearing shades and a palm tree popping out from the cap to complete the beach vibes.
That’s the sketch I put together.

This is the final version of the piece — I went in and inked it with thicker lines.
For the colors, I used a palette with yellow, magenta, green, and orange for the shirt. To catch that '80s Skateboard-Surf vibe, I went for that classic yellow-magenta combo that was everywhere back then. For the poster version, I went with a blue background to make everything pop even more. That’s the final result.
