Venus on a bag of coffee: a rich, botanical illustration for Cajè Coffee roasters

After a quick chat with Ryan about my vision and his idea, I pitched him this sketch. I don’t draw women often to be honest, I’m not good at it. Every freelance illustrator has characters/objects/decorations that come straight from his pencil super easily. Women faces and bodies?

Not my case. Anyway, I got inspired from a mix of Botticelli’s Venus and Botticelli’s Spring, with this beautiful woman surrounded by leaves, fruits and branches. Fun fact, she has a third eye on his forehead, with a ray coming out from it with a Cajè text. Maybe she’s a bit of a hippie. I don’t know.

Venus, first sketch

Creating some sort of hidden oval shape behind her, to make something as close as possible to a cameo but made of plants, that was the hardest part. about the bag design, luckily we already did the text and logos positioning on a precious coffee bag, so I just had to decorate it properly to fit the new graphic in the old layout.

Venus coffee bag - Colored version

Coloring took a lot of time. Hundreds of tiny details and leaves, but I like this mix of green, purples, yellows and oranges. This warm color palette it’s exactly what I was looking for, to have something that’s gonna appeal as luxurious, botanically
