A graphic serie for the Italian Skateboarding Championship 2025

This year I had the chance to design the official artwork for the 2025 Italian Skateboarding Championship.

The idea was to create something truly mine — fully in my style and deeply connected to the skate world. I was honestly stoked to do it, since I’ve been skateboarding non-stop since 2002, so getting to design for the national championship felt really special.

The concept was to include all five disciplines — street, park, downhill, slalom, and surfskate — and each one had to be able to work as a standalone element for individual flyers promoting each event date.

The whole artwork is built around a skull, with its cranium opened up. Inside the brain area I placed a funbox, and the open part of the skull became a bowl, which in this first version looked like a pizza cut into slices.

In the beginning skating inside the bowl was the surfskate character. In the funbox, another character — was pulling a trick. The street part was represented by someone doing a flip down a stairset, built into the skull’s hair. The downhill section was running along the spine, with a skater bombing it. For slalom, I had a skater weaving between cones on the tongue. And just for fun, I threw a random boardslide dude inside the mouth — because hell yeah why not.

After the first sketch, we made a few tweaks to make the artwork clearer and easier to read. I simplified the bowl at the top by removing the pizza idea and leaving just a section of brain with some dynamic splashess, that’s where I placed the character representing the park discipline.

In the funbox, I removed the rail and added some stairs instead, shifting the focus to the street discipline. I also moved the downhill scene to a more visible spot on the head — I basically shaved the skull’s hair to give that section more room and clarity. The slalom part stayed the same, while the surfskate character was moved into the mouth, so each discipline now stands out more clearly in the overall composition.

The final sketch got approved, so I moved on to inking and coloring the artwork. While working on it, I kept each discipline on separate layers, so that the elements could easily be pulled out and used for the individual event posters. And this is the final result: the full poster, along with all the individual discipline elements, slalom got pulled out from the contests.
